NEW YORK—Spin Master has been named master toy licensee for 4Kids Entertainment’s Chaotic animated television series and collectible trading card game brand.
The agreement grants Spin Master exclusive rights to market Chaotic toys, including action figures and collectables—but excluding plush—in North America, the United Kingdom, France and Mexico. The first toys resulting from the agreement are scheduled to reach retail in late 2009 or early 2010.
"There are strong synergies between the Chaotic and Bakugan brands and judging by Chaotic's recent upward trend, we believe it represents an exciting opportunity for us in the boys' action and trading card categories," said Adam Beder, Spin Master’s vice president for licensing, of the deal.
Since its October 2007 launch at comic and hobby stores, the Chaotic TCG has grown into the top-selling trading card game in Canada (since June 2008), and the No. 3 TCG in the U.S. (since April 2008), behind Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, according to 4Kids.The fourth Chaotic booster card series, Rise of the Oligarch, was recently released.
Other Chaotic licensees include BioWorld for headwear, Prima Games for Chaotic TCG strategy guides and Ultra Pro for trading card game accessories.
