A Capitol idea

The Master Builder Capitol Block Set (SRP $45) is among the new T.C. Timber offerings for the upcoming holiday season. The 69-piece, 25-shape set of natural colored, hardwood maple blocks comes with domes and arches to construct municipal structures and monuments.

For young builders with a yen for history, the company is introducing The Master Builder Pyramid Block Set (SRP $45), which includes 67 pieces in 18 shapes. The set also comes with colorful sphinx and palm trees.

Other sets with a historical bent include The Old West Fort Block Set (SRP $45) and The Log Cabin Block Set (SRP $45). In addition to 85 natural wood and colored blocks, the fort set comes with wooden figures of cowboys, soldiers and horses, all in color. The log cabin set includes 58 natural and colored hardwood beech blocks.

Other sets from T.C. Timber include The Nativity Set, Barnyard Friends, Cobra, Bakery Set, Dolphin Ball and Tree of Life Pattern Blocks. The Pattern Blocks include 92 hand made solid hardwood blocks of shapes to depict part of a detailed collection modeled after the window creations of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Dolled up

A new assortment of baby doll clothes from Sophia's Heritage Collection features a variety of themes and seasonal outfits fashioned after real infant clothing.

In addition to Sophia's traditional 15-inch clothing line, the collection includes three new sizes: 12-, 17- and 19-inch sizes.

To assist retailers in promoting sales and eliminating confusion in the store, Sophia's can provide a display rack with coordinating display signs identifying the correct size outfits for their dolls.

The new outfits include a trimmed special occasion White Spring Dress and Headband, Summer Time Shorts Set and Starry Time Sleeper and Cap Hat.

Trick photography

The trick to this new photography system by Klutz is all in the eye of the beholder. This book-with-camera set, which will be available for holiday season selling, illustrates how simple tricks of perspective can result in unusual photos (that is, if a torso holding its head sounds unusual).

Tricky Pix: Do-it-Yourself Trick Photography (SRP $16.95) is one of several new products Klutz is introducing this fall. Another is Fairies: Petal People You Make Yourself (pictured below). Written by a 13-year-old girl, Fairies (SRP $15.95) is a book of instructions along with supplies for making a dozen fairy dolls. The Fabulous Book of Paper Dolls (SRP $16.95) is an additional doll product, this one featuring punch-out paper dolls with clothes that stick on and peel off and a closet on the last page for storage.

For older children, Klutz is introducing The Solar Car Book (SRP $21.95), which comes with a complete kit for making a little racecar powered by the sun. Also new for the fall, Window Art (SRP $19.95) gives young artists the chance to create peel-off window decorations by tracing patterns in the book and filling them in with provided colors. The peel-offs work on most flat surfaces.

Additionally, the company is launching Klutz Kwiz, interchangeable question decks for grades K through four that come with "an electronic gizmo" to identify correct answers. Suggested retail for the Kwiz gizmo and deck is $17.95 and $9.95 for the deck only.
