New editorial position brings additional expertise to Playthings
By Maria Weiskott -- Playthings, 6/1/2004
Meet Jason White.
No, not the title of a movie.
Jason White is the name of our new Associate Editor here at PLAYTHINGS. We are pleased to reopen this staff position with an experienced editor who's got a decade's worth of experience under his belt. He joins Senior/Managing Editor Pam Brill, Group Art Director Miguel Bravo, Group Web Editor Cliff Annicelli and me in bringing you the most in-depth reporting and graphically pleasing magazine in the biz.
Although he just joined the staff on May 10th, you may have already met Jason. He literally hit the ground running!
On his second day, he was out gathering a New York City market report for the magazine's "What's Selling" department and on day three, he was flying to Chicago to cover the American Specialty Retailers Association (ASTRA) annual meeting with us. (You can read his ASTRA report on page four of this issue.)
"It's funny how I started out my career in my favorite hobby only to end up back in another favorite hobby years later," he says, referring to his new position at PLAYTHINGS. "I'm a big animé fan and Saturdays are 'cartoon day' from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.," he explains. "If I'm not watching cartoons or ordering the latest in animé and animé toys, I'm playing video games and trying to rebuild my lost He-Man empire," he quips.
So when he landed a position at Marvel Comics at the start of his career, it just—well—fit the bill; a chance to work at his play. While there, "I had the pleasure of talking to some of the greats like Stan "The Man" Lee and John Romita Sr."
From Marvel, Jason moved to RLR Associates, a literary agency, where he was able to work with the likes of Joe Torre and Tim McCarver, and then on to Harcourt Brace working on the Gulliver imprint.
Jason comes to PLAYTHINGS after serving as chief copy editor at Computer Associates. And, indeed, this position just 'fits the bill' too. He says he is happy to have come full circle and be able to seriously work again at his passion: toys.
