Activity 'central'

We've got lots for you to read and to do, as well

by Maria Weiskott, Editor-in-Chief -- Playthings, 9/1/2004

Yikes! With so much activity going on here at Playthings it's hard to know where to begin.

So let's start by first talking about this issue. Readers will notice that it contains several additional sections; for one, our second annual Woman's Day supplement.

Last year, we struck a partnership with the renowned consumer magazine to provide content for its November issue. Since we renewed that partnership this year, we included the supplement in this issue. We want our own readers to be aware of the information a select demographic of 350,000 Woman's Day subscribers—women with kids between the ages of 2 and 17—will be seeing when the magazine's traditional holiday issue hits mailboxes next month. We expect our relationship with Woman's Day to be a continuing one.

Another repeat performance in this issue: our second annual Inventors' Guide. It was so popular last year, we brought it back even bigger and better this year.

And now, a few words about the non-publishing side of Playthings.

It's “that” time of year again (we mean besides back-to-school); time for manufacturers and retailers to organize their entries for consideration in our annual Industry Achievement Awards competition.

February 2005 will mark the 35th consecutive year in a lifetime that spans 101 years that Playthings will honor our industry's highest achievers—making our awards the oldest and, we are told, the most prestigious in the biz. This year we are again adding new categories including, innovator, visionary and brand builder.

And speaking of high achievers, visionaries and the like, this year we launch a new recognition.

“Wonder Women of Toys” will be coordinated in partnership with Women in Toys, the industry's organization for women in the toy biz.

Women will be honored in four separate categories: Retailer, Manufacturer, Inventor/Designer and Entrepreneur.

Nominations can be submitted in essay form through the Women in Toys or Playthings Web sites.

These Awards will be presented at the Annual Women in Toys Toy Fair Networking Dinner.

Complete information about both the Playthings Industry Achievement Awards and the Wonder Women of Toys can be found at www.playthings.com.

So what are you waiting for? (!)
