NEW YORK—Toy inventor and designer Reuben Klamer and toy industry innovator Lionel Weintraub are 2005 Toy Industry Hall of Fame inductees.

The ceremony inducting Mr. Klamer and the late Mr. Weintraub takes place as part of the fifth annual T.O.T.Y. (Toy Of The Year) Awards, set for the evening of Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 in Manhattan at The Hilton New York.

“Reuben is the ‘inventor’s inventor’ and no one in his field has been more active and supportive of our industry and TIA. Lionel not only ran a wonderful company in Ideal, but he was a mentor to many of us who are still in this special industry,” says Alan Hassenfeld, chairman of Hasbro.

Reuben Klamer is a toy inventor and designer with more than 200 products to his credit. In addition to his preeminence in the areas of toy design, development and marketing, Klamer also pioneered the worldwide use in toys of an unbreakable plastic called polyethylene. He is the owner of Reuben Klamer Toylab (founded as Reuben Klamer & Associates more than 40 years ago), which is based in La Jolla, California.

Lionel Weintraub (1920-1994) was one of the first industry leaders to buy inventions from outside sources, including previous Toy Industry Hall of Fame inductees Marvin Glass and Eddy Goldfarb. Among the many other accomplishments in his 40-year toy industry career, Weintraub was a pioneer in the introduction of injection-molded toys.
