Hall of Fame Inductees

By Staff -- Playthings, 1/1/2005

The National Toy Hall of Fame at the Strong Museum inducted G.I. Joe, the rocking horse and Scrabble, bringing its total collection of classic toys to 31.

Inductees are chosen based on a set of criteria that includes four different categories: icon-status, longevity, discovery, and innovation. In addition to being accepted as a generally safe toy, the item must be widely recognized, popular among multiple generations, encourage learning or creativity, and have had a significant impact on toys either through a change in play or toy design.

Playthings acts as the national media partner of the National Toy Hall of Fame. Playthings will recognize each of the inductees at its Annual Industry Achievement Awards dinner in February 21, 2005, in New York, coinciding with the American International Toy Fair.
