Let's get ... physical!

Sporty characters like Tessa, Mimi and Marvin the Mitt and Benny take kids through the world of working out—baby style. Golf, basketball and even tennis are introduced to kids, ages 0 to 36 months, in athleticBaby All Star, from athleticBaby, Dallas.
The half hour video moves from children playing everything from baseball to soccer with the help of colorful hand puppet-like characters that keep kids entertained—Tessa, a tennis racket-shaped character helps teach one child how to play to tennis.
According the Department of Health and Human Services, one out of two Americans are overweight. Retailers interested in helping parents get their kids active can look to athleticBaby, launched by creator Karen Foster, an exercise enthusiast and golfer, to help offset inevitable weight gain.
Foster says the series may help fend off future, unhealthy lifestyles by encouraging an active lifestyle at an early age. “The nation, the media, medical experts and parents are focused on getting kids active at an early age, because of child obesity rates and the rise in sedentary activity that kids are more and more likely to be participating in,” says Foster. “Parents are saying that their kids are interested in playing golf after watching our presentation, which is what it's all about.”
As part of the athleticBaby DVD series ($16.99), athleticBaby Golf is also available. Baseball, basketball and soccer videos arrive in June.
