Niche couture toys

If the clothes fit, dress the toy. At least that's what some fashion designers like Giorgio Armani, Miucca Prada and Marc Jacobs did for Kidrobot, New York and art/fashion magazine Visionaire. The limited run of plastic figures are custom designed by top names in fashion. Only 5,000 were sold at Kidrobot and through Visionaire as well as other high-quality stores around the world.
The More Toys line features 10 limited-edition toys sold in two sets (blue and yellow) of five four-inch dolls and retail for $175 each. Sets also include photos, accessories (cell phone, camera, martini glass and flower) for toys to hold.
Paul Budnitz, president, Kidrobot, says that collectible toys sell, because designs are usually riskier, detail is more finite and they are more valuable to consumers.
“Like all works of art, if there are less made, those that do exist are more valuable to those who buy them,” says Budnitz. “We are specifically designing some toys for the larger culture. Our mission is to spread the beautiful things we make far and wide.”
