Some pretty Ugly tie-ins

By Staff -- Playthings, 7/1/2006

Uglydolls are taking the world by storm—again! This time, offerings in some brand new product categories could put the friendly freaks into the hands of all-new fans.

Originally launched in 2001 by artists David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, the lineup of plush playthings grew to include smaller vinyl and plush, key chains, T-shirts and more characters.

This year, fans of the Uglies will get an easy-to-play card game for kids (from partner Gamewright), a How to Draw Uglydoll book (from Walter Foster) in August, party supplies, new apparel and an “amazing” collection of 2-foot-tall dolls, says Victoria George, whose PR firm represents the brand.

“There are so many fantastic things” coming out this year, George says. Most exciting of all is that two new Uglies are being introduced: Moxy, who debuted in May, and Chuckanuka, who will hit stores in August.
