Transformers' Anniversary
By Tina Benitez -- Playthings, 8/1/2006
The trailer is already out. Is it Megatron? Optimus? As of press time, we can only guess which Transformers character is featured in the upcoming Sony feature film's sneak peek. The 2007 flick will follow this fall's 20th anniversary of the Transformers animated series and the DVD re-release of 1986's Transformers: The Movie.
Optimus Prime, Megatron and the other robots in disguise are all included in the new DVD set that will be available this November. It features behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive interviews, interactive games, collectible packaging and a soundtrack featuring the series' theme, “The Transformers,” performed by Lion, and the popular “The Touch,” by Stan Bush.
This fall, Hasbro, Pawtucket, R.I., will release a “classics” line of Transformers figures inspired by the first generation of Transformers (or “G1”) characters and toys.
Separately, Diamond Select Toys, Timonium, Md., is developing a line of collectibles for the original series as well as updated designs for the next generation of Transformers. Product is expected to be released in 2007.
