A code of ethicsThe article by Dr. Stevanne Auerbach, “Changing Values” (Playthings, October 2006), touches on a complex subject that The Toy Industry Association has been working on for some time. In fact, it is important to remember that TIA does have a Code of Ethics and has been a long-time leader in the development of product safety standards as well as both the ICTI Code of Conduct and the ICTI CARE Process, which mandate fair labor conditions in toy factories overseas.
TIA certainly confirms the importance of intellectual property rights and their appropriate safeguarding and enforcement. We are grateful for Dr. Auerbach's input and have been in communication with her on the matter. The issue is in the hands of the Executive Committee of the TIA board, which has asked TIA's Strategic Planning Committee and staff to develop a proposed course of action. That is now in progress.
