The 'Doctor' is In
By Karyn M. Peterson -- Playthings, 4/1/2007
Is it a bird, a plane? No, it's the TARDIS time machine, landing again at U.S. toy stores, along with everyone's favorite Time Lord (well, his 10th incarnation, anyway) and a host of other Doctor Who toys, figures, collectibles and electronic gadgets.
London-based Underground Toys is launching the line here based on the growing popularity of the newest version of the series, which has built on and expanded the show's cult status as the longest running science fiction television series ever. The new version currently airs in the U.S. on BBC America and on the Sci Fi Channel.
"Doctor Who has been a massive brand [in the U.K.] for the last couple of years," Matthew Wozniak, director of sales, tells Playthings. "When an opportunity arose to distribute the toys into the U.S. we pursued that very actively."
