Hasbro Reclaims TV SeriesHasbro reacquired worldwide rights to the Sunbow library of programming based on more than 30 of its toy brands, including G.I. Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony and Littlest Pet Shop. The deal gives Hasbro ownership of nearly 1,000 episodes of TV programming, effectively doubling its content library. Separately, the company said it hired movie industry veteran Bennett Schneir to fill its newly-created position of Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Motion Pictures.
FAO Plans more Macy's ShopsSpecialty retailer FAO Schwarz will expand its store-within-a-store concept at Macy's this holiday season to nearly 275 locations. Long-term, the partners are hoping to establish year-round FAO shops in approximately 685 Macy's locations within two years. FAO first tested the concept last fall at Macy's store on Chicago's State Street.
Grand Backs out of Wham-O BuyGrand Toys International was forced to cancel its planned acquisition of Wham-O Inc. from Cornerstone Strategic Management Limited—a company owned and controlled by the wife of Grand Toys' major shareholder, Jeff Hsieh—when Grand found itself unable to raise the necessary financing to complete the deal it announced during February's American International Toy Fair.
