LONDON—Galleon Holdings has granted Zizzle distribution rights for playthings based on its animated series Skunk Fu! in a deal that’s Galleon’s first in the U.S. market.
Zizzle’s agreement, brokered by licensing agent The Sharpe Co., will see the toymaker distribute in the U.S. a Skunk Fu! line developed by Croco Worldwide, Galleon's toy division. Details of the toy line and the timing of its debut were not announced.
"We're thrilled to have been chosen to bring Skunk Fu!to the U.S.,” said Roger Shiffman, Zizzle’s president and CEO. “The success the television show has had on the Cartoon Network right out of the blocks is unprecedented. The characters and comedic play lend themselves to a long term franchise opportunity. We're confident that pairing Zizzle's product and marketing expertise, The Sharpe Company's stellar licensing and Croco's product, we are creating a recipe for success."
Skunk Fu! currently airs on Cartoon Network. It premiered in September 2007 as part of the Kids' WB! block. Aimed at 6- to 12-year-old children, it follows the adventures of a skunk accidentally dropped into China and who must subsequently learns to master kung fu in order to fight the evil Black Dragon and his army of Ninja Monkeys.
Sharpe Co.’s merchandising plans for the property include “active discussions with book publishers, interactive game manufacturers, back-to-school, apparel and gift companies,” according to Charles Day, Sharpe’s president.
