COLUMBUS, Ohio—Closeout retailer Big Lots today added online shopping to its repertoire, adding to its otherwise e-commerce-free website an online-exclusive “deal of the day” feature.
"We are excited about the start of our e-commerce business today and the opportunity to bring closeout shopping to the internet in a Big Lots way,” said Steve Fishman, Big Lots’ chairman, CEO and president. “The online deal of the day concept is something that we believe is fun and different, and with unbelievable values and great brands, it's just in time for the holidays. Shop early and shop often because the items, brands, and types of merchandise will change daily."
The online deal of the day concept will feature items at “incredible values not commonly found elsewhere, whether online or in a brick and mortar location.” The service's first item was a 40-inch LCD HDTV (1080p) at a price 37 percent off its suggested retail.
Deals will be posted each day around 8:00 a.m. Eastern time and quantities on items will be limited. To keep customers aware of the daily deals, consumers can sign up for email alerts or download a Big Lots online deal of the day widget.
