4Kids Entertainment

4Kids Entertainment, New York, will announce new developments for its Chaotic trading card and online game at this year’s Toy Fair. The company is also celebrating the 25th anniversaries of two of its key brands, the Cabbage Patch Kids, which will get a collection of new CPK Fairies dolls from Play Along; and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which gets an expansive new line of action figures, playsets and more from Playmates. Playmates will unveil new Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds toys.

AG Properties

AG Properties, Cleveland, will update several key brands this year, including Care Bears (Hasbro figurines, plush and puzzles tied to a new film) and Strawberry Shortcake (Hasbro dolls, play sets and puzzles). Fox will also support the Strawberry Shortcake brand re-launch with new entertainment. “Sushi Pack” will get play product this year, courtesy of Big Time Toys. Basic Fun will offer additional Madballs toys.

BBC Worldwide

BBC Worldwide, London, celebrates the U.S. release of its “Planet Earth” documentary on Earth Day 2009 with educational and plush toys by Planet Toys; new titles in the Scholastic Planet Earth book program; 2-D and 3-D recycled cardboard puzzles from The Canadian Group; a Monopoly Planet Earth Edition board game from USAopoly; a DVD/board game from Imagination International; and sticker, coloring, activity and guide books from Modern Publishing. For its “In the Night Garden” property, BBC Worldwide offers Hasbro Roll 'n’ Go figures, plush and Play-Doh Can Toppers for distribution in Canada. For the new series “3rd & Bird,” Fisher-Price will be debuting preschool/toddler toys.

CBS Consumer Products

CBS Consumer Products, New York, will be promoting Star Trek (both the classic series as well as the new big-screen film adaptation) through new board games by Fundex and USAopoloy, collectibles and gift items from Funko and Vandor, and a line of movie character dolls from Mattel. The licensor is also expanding its brand based on the two “90210” series (the classic and the new one) and will tap into its TV library to introduce new merchandise inspired by the classic series “Twilight Zone” and “I Love Lucy.”

Cookie Jar Entertainment

Cookie Jar Entertainment, Toronto, expands its Mommy & Me brand with The Learning Cube by Maxim Enterprises. The company will also be showcasing a new Valentine’s Day Strawberry Shortcake DVD from Twentieth Century Fox.

DCI

DCI, Los Angeles, will promote the TV series “Chop Socky Chooks” with school supplies by Inkology, posters by Trends International, and 6-inch action figures from Jada Toy.

Disney Consumer Products

In anticipation of its 10th anniversary, Disney Consumer Products welcomes Princess Tiana from the upcoming “The Princess and the Frog” animated film. Tiana is Disney’s first African-American princess, and so a number of new products will be debuting. Meanwhile, the re-release of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” on DVD this year will see a host of additional new toys and other products from Disney’s licensing partners. The Toy Story franchise will also be a focus for the company, given the upcoming “Toy Story 3” big-screen debut in 2010, plus the re-release of the original “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2” films as 3-D features on the big screen (in fall 2009 and spring 2010, respectively). Disney’s popular preschool properties (Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Little Einsteins) will also see expanded toy lines from Fisher-Price, while Mattel’s new Disney offerings will include toys tied to the “Cars Toons” animated shorts series that airs on the Disney Channel. Another line currently in the works is based on the virtual world of Cars featuring Lightning McQueen on Disney.com and various other move characters from the original Disney/Pixar big-screen film “Cars.” Meanwhile, the release of another installment of the Disney Fairies DVD series, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure,” coincides with a collection of new role playing outfits, playsets and more from Jakks Pacific. Jakks Pacific and Mattel also plan to rev up the Hannah Montana and High School Musical brands, plus add toy assortments based on the Jonas Brothers and “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Dodge Licensed Products

Dodge Licensed Products, Auburn Hills, Mich., will see several new die-cast models of its muscle cars from F.F. Ertl III’s Die-Cast Promotions. In addition, the Dodge Zeo Concept R/C Car in 1:10 and 1:16 scales as well as some additional futuristic offerings will debut this year from Max Tech.

Fox

Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising, Los Angeles, expands its Dragonball program in 2009 to include Bandai action figures and accessories based on the new spring film. “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” will get tie-in products in the form of flashlights, bobble heads and remote control planes from Excalibur Electronics. “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” will get a collection of plush and action figures by Planet Toys, Beanie Babies plush from Ty and a View-Master from Fisher-Price. “Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakuel” will see several toy, publishing and apparel items. New toys will also debut for “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy” and “24,” while the “Halo 3” and “Halo Wars” video games will get a dedicated version of the Risk board game from USAopoly, construction sets from Mega Brands and new action figures from McFarlane Toys.

Gateway4M International

Hamburg, Germany-based Gateway4M has signed an agreement with three new licensees to expand its “Wunderkind Little Amadeus” brand. Naxos will release a DVD set featuring season one of the animated series; a soundtrack CD will also be available. Playgo will create a line of 21 musical instruments, including pianos, violins, recorders, drums and others. And Nintendo will debut an interactive DS game.

Joy Tashjian Marketing Group

JMTG, San Francisco, will expand several of its key television brands. “The Biggest Loser” will get an interactive weight loss/fitness game for Nintendo Wii from THQ, plus recipe cards and kitchen accessories from Jakks Pacific. “The Office” will get a Clue-style board game from USAoply, and stationery from Innovative Design. “Deal or No Deal” will get sweets from Ferrara Pan Candy and RM Palmer.

Nickelodeon & Viacom CP

New York-based N&VCP is focusing on a few core properties this year, including “Ni Hao, Kai-lan” and “iCarly.” To mark the 10th anniversary of “SpongeBob SquarePants,” Play-Along will introduce talking plush, Hasbro will release a line of classic games and LeapFrog will roll out educational toys. Fisher-Price will introduce a new Dora dancing doll, as well as several new products for Diego and “The Wonder Pets.” Jakks Pacific will debut new Slime! Products. Toy Island will add green-themed toys such as a recyclable dollhouse.

Paramount Licensing

Paramount’s “Hotel for Dogs” will get new products, including a lenticular puzzle from Aquarius, while the infamous Don Corleone character from “The Godfather” will get a 6-inch, limited-edition sculptured bust from Dark Horse as well as a talking Bobble Head from Funko.

Pokémon USA

Refueled by the revitalization of its core property thanks to the success of the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl video games, 2009 will see the Pokémon marketing machine bring forth several new Pokémon video game and trading card game releases, the U.S. DVD release of “Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior,” the 12th season of the Pokémon TV series and an international quick-serve restaurant promotion. It will also support a series of trading card and video game tournaments in the U.S. Look for new product from Jakks Pacific.

PorchLight Entertainment

Los Angeles-based Porchlight Entertainment has partnered with Big Hug Productions on “Pozles,” a new 3-D preschool series featuring building block characters living in a CGI world. The licensor will act as the worldwide distributor and will have all licensing and merchandising rights for the series.

Scholastic Media

New York-based Scholastic Media takes the mystery out of its new multiplatform property, The 39 Clues, by announcing two of its latest children’s product licensees—University Games and Trends—for the brand at this year’s Toy Fair. Briarpatch will showcase its I Spy-branded games and also reveal its plans to release Word Girl-themed product in 2010. Scholastic Media will also unveil its new qubo kids’ series, “Turbo Dogs.” Meanwhile, The Young Scientists Club will highlight its Magic School Bus line of science kits, while Clifford licensees Yottoy and Mattel will be on hand to help reveal the latest “big news” surrounding the merchandising of Scholastic’s beloved Big Red Dog in 2009.
