By Staff -- Playthings, 3/18/2009 12:25:00 PM

NEW YORK—FAO Schwarz has tapped retailing executive Barry Erdos to replace CEO Ed Schmults, effective immediately, the retailer said today.

Erdos, 65, is a former president and chief operating officer of make-your-own-plush retailer Build-A-Bear Workshop. He most recently served as the president and COO of online apparel retailer Bluefly.com. He will continue to sit on Bluefly's board.

“I’m extremely proud and excited to be part of one of the most iconic and prestigious retail brands in the world,” said Erdos.

According to the Associated Press, Schmults “resigned to pursue other interests.” He had been FAO Schwarz’s CEO since 2005.
