Pacific Cycle plans 'Hello Kitty' bikes

MADISON, Wis.—Children’s bicycle maker Pacific Cycle today announced the pending debut of a collection of Hello Kitty branded bikes and protective gear for 2009.
Several products will launched at mass retail this fall, including 12- and 16-inch bicycles, as well as bicycle helmets. The bikes have MSRPs ranging from $69.99 to $89.99, depending on size, and the helmet value packs (including pad set) retailing for $19.99.
“We are thrilled to be working with Sanrio to bring Hello Kitty bicycles and protective gear to the market,” said Danna Dueck, Pacific Cycle’s licensing manager. “As an iconic brand with tons of character, Hello Kitty allows us to develop products that appeal to girls of all ages.”
The multi-year agreement permits Pacific Cycle to develop and distribute bicycles, tricycles, protective gear, bicycle accessories and children’s electric ride-on vehicles in the US and Canadian markets. Additional product designs are in the works for upcoming seasons, the company said. The exact duration of the deal was not announced.
Pacific Cycle is a division of Dorel Industries, marketer of bicycles under the brand names of Schwinn, Mongoose, Pacific, InSTEP, Schwinn Motor Scooters, Roadmaster, PlaySafe, KidTrax and Dyno. Its other licenses include Disney, Nickelodeon, Dodge and Corvette.
