Business at Barstons Child's Play has been "about average" over the summer, helped by the store's location in "a very walkable neighborhood with enough foot traffic to keep us busy," says Morgan Stanley, manager for the three door retailer's location in the District of Columbia.

Among the DC store's best sellers a notch below the above list were construction toy lines from Playmobil (Egypt), ImagAbility (Mini Wedgits) and Tomy (Constructables); and games like North Star's Wits & Wagers and Ravensburger's FITS.

Rowdy Rascals Toy Store in Snohomish, Wash., is a 2-plus year-old toy store that stocks "high quality and educational toys for a wide variety of different ages—from infants up to kids 13 or 14," says store staffer Allison Molsee.

Reflecting the store's varied selection, best sellers last month spanned the age spectrum from infant products, like Vulli's Sophie the Giraffe teether, to toys for mid-years children by Bruder and William Mark, and tween-friendly items like H&H Kids' collectible key chains and M3 Girl Designs' jewelry based around bottle caps, she said.
