NEW YORK—The Toy Industry Association announced today the first products to be certified under the newly launched Toy Safety Certification Program.
The TSCP is an initiative designed by TIA to help assure products comply with the federal Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and enhance the safety of toys sold in the United States. It was launched on October 1, 2009.
The first product to receive TSCP certification was Radio Flyer’s Push, Pull and Ride (pictured), a combination push walker, stroller, ride-on and wagon. Also certified were five products from Sassy—Flip & Grip 2 Pack, Sensation Station, Hello Baby! Phone, Carrier Mirror and Fascination Station—and Cadaco’s Magic Card Game Assortment and Tripoley Diamond Edition.
TSCP provides what TIA describes as a “reasonable” testing program for CPSIA compliance. TSCP certification signifies that manufacturers have performed an analysis of their toy designs to identify and correct safety issues, assessed factory process controls, and performed the prescribed safety tests on product samples using accredited laboratories. Certificates are available for review and use by U.S. regulatory authorities as required by federal law, and also by retailers. Eventually consumers will have access to the certificates.
