CHICAGO—The year’s top toy and game designers were feted at the Toy and Game Inventors Expo TAGIE Awards on Friday night.
In the awards program’s second year, top honors went to independent designer Peggy Brown in the category of Excellence in Game Design; Zhu Zhu Pets marketer Cepia’s Russell Hornsby for Excellence in Toy Design; and independent designer Jack Degnan as Rising Star Inventor.
Seth Calvin, the 12-year-old creator of Razor USA’s Razor RipRider 360 ride-on, was the recipient of the program’s first Young Inventor award. He nudged out competitors Carmen Manfredini, the 13-year-old creator of Carmen’s Lace Case crafting kit, and Kylie Copenhagen, the now sixth grader who when only in First Grade invented Zobmondo Entertainment’s The Ladybug Game.
This year’s awards included celebrity presenters John Ratzenberg, actor turned advocate for American inventors, and Daryl Hannah and Hilary Shepard, actresses who have teamed to create board games.
