Scholastic will revive The Baby-sitters Club book series in 2010 with a new prequel and reissues.NEW YORK—Scholastic is reviving Ann M. Martin’s popular The Baby-sitters Club book series with the release of a prequel this spring.

"The Summer Before,” set prior to the first book in the series, will be released in hardcover in April 2010. Scholastic will begin re-issuing paperback editions of the original series that month as well, with two titles due in April followed by two more in June and others in fall 2010.

The Baby-sitters Club book series sold more than 176 million copies of approximately 250 titles between 1986 and 2000. During the period it birthed a television series and a feature film. It dealt with everyday topics such as friendship, sibling rivalry and peer pressure, as well as more serious issues such as divorce, diabetes and death.

In 2006, Scholastic tried to revive the franchise with graphic novel versions of the BSC books.
