Important article you need to read
December 22, 2007

It's Saturday morning and I have just finished reading an article in the Sunday "New York Times Magazine."  No, I am not caught in a time warp.  I just happen to get the Sunday magazine on Saturday and accordingly have the ability to see the future, at least as far as the New York Times is concerned.
The article I just finished reading is "A Toy Maker's Conscience" by Jonathan Dee.  It is a long and interesting look at Mattel's efforts in improving working conditions in its Chinese factories while at the same time, seemingly, losing its way on consumer safety.
Along the way, the article also manages to comment on Hasbro and Alan Hassenfeld, the ICTI CARE process, an ethicist named Prakash Sethi, and the entire toy industry.  There's a lot there and I think it’s worth the read.
I plan on reviewing it a few more times and will write my thoughts on it next week.  In the mean time, take time to read it and see what you think.
