“Made in” - the next big thing in marketing?

August 30, 2007

“Made in’ is going to become a star. Why? Well, all this attention on where a product is made suggests that we will see that tiny little “Made in” move from the back of the package where it now resides in virtual anonymity next to “Batteries not included” to a large font position on the front of the package.

What is interesting is that a decision not to put the “Made in” on the front of the package could actually backfire. Parents who are safety oriented, and many are, may well suspect and pass on any product that does not shout out where it is made.

Figuring out how and where to tell the consumer where a product is made may well be the most challenging marketing decision of 2008.
