DEADLINE for ICTI CARE
August 25, 2008
With all of the news last year about defectives and recalls, the ICTI CARE process got pushed into the back of mind for many toy manufacturers and the press. Well, the deadline is fast approaching to make the commitment.
The ICTI CARE Process, for those who are not familiar with it, is the International Council of Toy Industries initiative to: ensure “…safe and humane workplace environments for toy factory workers worldwide.
ICTI is the association for the worldwide toy industry. The council’s commitment to recognizing basic worker rights is a high minded effort and commands the respect of everyone associated with Toy Nation. Equally commanding respect are those toy manufacturers who have signed the ICTA CARE Pledge of Support.
I wanted to know what percentage of toy companies had signed the pledge. So, I contacted Harris Brandt, Director of Branding and Communications for the Toy Industry Association.
Harris told me that 80% of TIA members have signed the ICTI CARE Pledge of Support. The remaining 20% needed to get theirs in by the deadline which is December 31, 2008. What happens if a TIA member fails to meet the deadline? According to Harris, failure to sign means they lose their membership in the TIA.
So, if you are among the 20% of TIA members who have not signed the pledge, take time out to do so. The deadline is approaching.
