Number of U.S. Spanish speaking consumers continues to grow
December 13, 2007
I continue to watch with fascination as the percentage of Hispanic citizens increases and the toy industry continues to just sit there and watch. When is someone going to finally key in on what this vital demographic wants and needs?
The latest census figures tell us that 1 in 5 Americans speak another language other than English while at home. Of this group, those speaking Spanish were in the vast majority.
The figure of 1 in 5 is a national figure so when you focus in on specific states the percentage gets even more significant. Forty three percent of California citizens speak another language other than English while at home. The number jumps to 53% in L.A.
Other states with large Spanish speaking populations are New York, Texas and New Jersey.
