Huffy debuts backyard sets

By Staff -- Playthings,04/11/2007

MIAMISBURG, Ohio—Huffy is entering the backyard equipment market this year with debut designs that feature multiple activity stations for kids, and aesthetics it hopes will appeal to parents.

The Huffy Playcenters line debuts with four SKUs:

• Camelot (pictured), an earth-toned, castle-themed unit with a 4 foot deck, rock climbing wall, 8 foot scoop wave slide, two swings, two-person glide ride, four-person lawn swing and sandbox

• Central Park, an earth-toned play with a 4 foot deck, rock climbing wall, 8 foot scoop wave slide, two swings, two-person glide ride, four-person lawn swing, sandbox and crawl tube

• Coliseum, a sports-themed set with a 4 foot deck, rock climbing wall, 8 foot scoop wave slide, two swings, two-person glide ride, four person lawn swing, soccer net, football goal post, basketball goal with breakaway rim, a soccer ball, basketball and football. It’s offered in muted primary colors.

• Stadium, a smaller, sports-themed set for those with limited play space, it has all of the Coliseum’s features minus the four person lawn swing.

The Playcenters have suggested retail prices ranging from $599 to $899.

According to Huffy, all four sets have “enhanced safety features,” such as closed-link chains covered in heavy gauge vinyl to cut down on the chance of pinched fingers, a wider stance A-frame design than many traditional metal swing sets;

rolled edges and rolled corners, and tucked away or rounded off connectors to reduce clothing snags. For increased durability, the line is constructed with more substantial top beams and larger than average diameter legs (2¼-inches vs. traditional 2-inch diameter legs) for added strength and rigidity, among other improvements.

I bought one at big lots and yes the box is huge but the product is great. My 3 year old enjoys it daily. It looks very sturdy and the metal poles are alot thicker than the regular play sets you can buy that arent wood. great product at a great price the original price said 899 but i wish i could have bought it at k-mart for 100 to :)

I called the company and the sales rep told me they had stopped making all of the play centers and that she had no info as to any future change.
