Mattel pares staff

By Staff -- Playthings,09/17/2009

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.—Mattel today conducted a small round of layoffs that impacted both its namesake business and Fisher-Price, according to media reports.

Buffalo, N.Y.-area media reported today that approximately 20 positions were cut at Fisher-Price’s East Aurora, N.Y., headquarters as part of an approximately 80 position paring of Mattel’s overall payroll.

In addition to outright layoffs, some of the jobs lost were the result of retirements, elimination of open positions and attrition, a Fisher-Price spokesperson told The Buffalo News.

Mattel has more than 5,000 US employees, including those at Fisher-Price.

In late 2008, the toymaker cut its US headcount by approximately 300 positions.

Why move the family? Move cross country solo, rent a room in some house and see how the 3 month gig at Mattel goes.

Would you move your family across the country for a 3-month gig at Mattel which may or may not be continued at the end of the 3-month period? Sounds stupid even as I write this, but just wanted to throw it out there.
